Palo Alto's Jasmine Tosky and Archbishop Mitty's Aaron Gordon, two of
California's most highly-recruited high school athletes, were honored last
week as the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame high school athletes of the year.
But while Gordon's recruiting whirlwind is just kicking into high gear, Tosky
recently made a final decision, committing to swim at USC.
"I really like the coaching staff there and I think they're going to make the
transition from club swimming to college easy," said Tosky, the 2010 Mercury
News swimmer of the year.
The choice was a bit of a surprise in swimming circles; Tosky attends school
across the street from Stanford and trains at Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics four
times a week. After years of living and swimming in Palo Alto, Tosky said she
is excited about trying out a new environment.
"College is about new experiences," Tosky said. "I felt it was time to leave
Palo Alto for a while so I could have the entire college experience."
Tosky is a six-time Central Coast Section champion and holds CCS records in
five events, but she doesn't yet know what she will swim at USC.
